THE FIFTH IMAM - ‘ASIM

Line 34

وَبِالْكُوفَةِ الْغَرَّاءِ مِنْهُمْ ثَلاَتَةٌ

أَذَاعُوا فَقَدْ ضَاعَتْ شَذاً وَقَرَ نْفُلاَ

In Kufa(Iraq), there were three famous readers from among the seven. These Imams spread knowledge amongst the people of Kufa.

The three Imams were (عاصم وحمزة والكسائي) ‘Asim, Hamza and Kisa’i.

Line 35

فَأَمَّا أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعَاصِمٌ اسْمُهُ

فَشُعْبَةُ رَاوِيهِ المُبَرِّزُ أَفْضَلاَ

The fifth Imam is 'Asim. His name was 'Asim bin Bahdalah Abi Al-Najud al-Asadi. His Kunya was Abu Bakr. He was the Shaykh of Qur’an in Kufa after Abi ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami and he was of the tabi'in. He passed away in 127 Hijri in Kufa.

Line 36

وَذَاكَ ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الرِّضَا

وَحَفْصٌ وَبِاْلإتْقَانِ كانَ مُفصَّلاَ

Shu’bah

The first of the two narrators is Imam Shu'bah. His name is Shu'bah bin 'Ayyash bin Salim and His Kunya was Abu Bakr. He was born in 95 Hijri. He was of the greatest scholars in his time. He passed away in 193 Hijri.

‘Asim

The second of the two, is Imam Hafs. His name is Hafs bin Sulayman bin Al-Mughirah Al-Asadi Al-Kufi. He was born in 90 Hijri. Majority of Muslims recite the way of Imam Hafs today. He passed away in 180 Hijri.
